'Beverlywood' Reinvents Webisodes in TV Format
The internet series Beverlywood at bwseries.com, reinvents shortform (2 min) webisodes in a new TV format. The series trailer is available on youtube.com. The show is a tongue in cheek version of the Sopranos online.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 18, 2009 -- The internet series 'Beverlywood' will launch today at bwseries.com, reinventing shortform (2 min) webisodes in a new TV format. 20 episodes will be released weekly in pairs for the debut season. The novel format means each episode pair will feature the four act structure, multiple scene cuts, and 'catch-up' trailer popularized by TV. Beverlywood's cast size and production schedule are typical of network serials rather than webseries or online shows. The series trailer is available on youtube.com.
The new format mitigates the typical flaw in most web serials to date - the single-scene webisode that appears disjointed from the show. By shooting and editing an entire season prior to release, TV editing options became available. These include story 'time jumps', flashbacks, and recurring visual references. In addition, a large cast size and multiple subplots were also essential to replicating TV's layered storytelling.
A tongue in cheek version of the Sopranos online, Beverlywood's premise borrows from the watergun-based assassination game 'Street Wars'. The game allows regular people in major cities worldwide to experience life as a hitman, all while being hunted themselves. In Beverlywood, the premise is adopted into a tit-for-tat mob war between Beverly Hills corporate types and broke Hollywood wannabes.
Beverlywood is independently produced by LA-based Slant N' Go Productions, Inc. It's hosted at bwseries.com, a full-feature interactive site. A dedicated online community was also created at bwspace.com. There, fans can interact with the cast and creators via individual profiles. Blip.tv will also carry the show.
Actor Ron Brosh writes and executive produces the show, directed by fellow thespian Gregory Lee Kenyon. They join a cast including Jacqui Holland ('My Best Friend's Girl'), British film and voice actor Ralph Lister ('Pirates of the Caribbean') and many others.
Visually, the show resembles independent film rather than television, looking modestly budgeted but cinematically rich. This owes to the cinematography of Mr. Kenyon and the director of photography known singularly as 'Rev'.
Original music for Beverlywood was composed by 'The Beach Boys' keyboardist Tim Bonhomme and Magna Carta-released guitarist Ethan Brosh. A soundtrack ranging from indie rock to hip-hop to bluegrass features a plethora of ascending music acts (Speed's the Name, Chance & the Choir, Boomkat…)
