Chicago based bar stool and restaurant furniture manufacturer Richardson Seating stops producing its hard cover paper catalog after 30 years. In an effort to lower its carbon foot print and become a greener manufacturer, Richardson Seating moves to an online digital catalog and online price list.
(PRWEB) April 29, 2009 -- In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint and become a greener organization, bar stool and restaurant furniture manufacturer Richardson Seating Corporation of Chicago, IL has decided to stop producing its annual hard copy product catalog. Richardson Seating has used this catalog to advertise its products to the trade for over 30 years. For the first time, Richardson Seating will rely on its newly redeveloped website for catalog purposes.
Richardson Seating, a leading manufacturer of commercial restaurant furniture, has been in the business of manufacturing restaurant chairs and restaurant bar stools since 1975. Richardson Seating sells its furniture to distributors of restaurant furniture, wholesalers, and online furniture retailers.
When asked if this is a big transition, Richardson Seating's VP Scott Lichtenstein had this to say, "I think it will be a big deal for some of our older customers. Not everyone uses the Internet for the purposes of catalogs. Some of our competitors still produce paper catalogs. Many of our customers are now bringing laptops with them on sales calls. They can pull up our distributor friendly website RichardsonSeating.com at the client's location or save images on their computer before the sales call."
When Richardson Seating first started, it relied heavily on its paper catalog to get business. Catalogs were mailed to food service distributors and mail order catalog buyers. The business channel was simple. A restaurant would look through the catalog of a foodservice distributor and choose the restaurant bar stools he liked best.
Today's market is different. Now a restaurateur goes online to find a picture of the bar stools or chairs that he wants for his establishment. He then forwards a picture of the furniture to his food service distributor to see if the distributor can get them.
According to Scott, "We want to make sure that everyone on the Internet is able to find our products. If someone is searching for bar stools for a restaurant, we want him to be at least able to see our product before making a decision. He can then call his local restaurant distributor or give us a call to find a dealer."
