New Online Course Offers College Hope for High School Students with Learning Disabilities

"Conquer College with LD/ADD", a 10-hour course written by a college Learning Specialist and designed to increase the college graduation rates of students with learning disabilities, makes its online debut May 5, 2009. Open to students in grades 9 - 12 and their parents, "Conquer College" teaches students with disabilities how to navigate college wisely, along with and skills/strategies that bode for success. Previously, "Conquer College with LD/ADD" was available only locally, but widespread demand resulted in this new online version. The purpose of this course is to level the college playing field for students with learning differences.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 18, 2009 -- Joan M. Azarva, founder of Transition Success, announced today that "Conquer College with LD/ADD"--an innovative course launched in January 2008 for Philadelphia-area high school students with learning differences--will makes its online debut on May 5, 2009. Registration is currently underway for this one-of-a-kind, 10-hour course that demonstrates to students and parents that college success can be achieved through knowledge of the college system, along with skills and strategies that make learning easier.

Today, students with learning disabilities are attending college in record numbers--yet, their graduation rate remains dismal when compared to their peers. Indeed, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, 16% of students with learning disabilities go on to graduate college versus 27% of their non-disabled peers.

The disparity is, in most cases, a function of simple unpreparedness and the pitfalls that result. Since Learning Specialists at most colleges are spread far too thin to re-actively help students requesting assistance, Azarva wrote "Conquer College" to fill the void, offering the comprehensive, pro-active solutions sought by parents and validated by educational statistics.

Azarva, a college Learning Specialist from 1993-2006, received a B.A. from Stony Brook University and an Ms.ED from the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author of numerous articles, one selected "Idea of the Year" in the journal "Teaching for Success", a "First Person" author for the website LdOnline, and she is a frequent contributor to online educational forums.

Open to students in grades 9-12, Conquer College levels the playing field for students with learning disabilities, increasing their prospects for postsecondary success and graduation.
