Illinois Medical District Recognizes Officers of its District Security Group
The IMD pays tribute to District Security Group Members for their service and selfless acts of courage that help make the IMD one of Chicago’s safest places to work and visit.
Chicago, IL (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 4, 2009 -- The Illinois Medical District (IMD), the nation’s largest urban medical district, recognized its honored District Security Group (DSG) Members and their service to IMD employees and visitors at an awards luncheon held Friday, May 29th, 2009. Awards were presented to members of the Illinois State Police, Chicago Police Department 12th District, UIC Police Department, and John H. Stroger Police Department.

The District Security Group is a collaboration of the law enforcement and security services operating within the 560-acre IMD that enhances and maintains the safety of its 22,000 employees and 75,000 daily visitors.
“Without the courage and service of these brave men and women of law enforcement, the IMD would not be the safe and secure environment that it is today,” said Abraham C. Morgan, Vice President of the Illinois Medical District Commission. “Support from our law enforcement community continues to be a vital ingredient in our efforts to foster the continued growth and prosperity of this, our nation's largest life sciences community."
Acts of service recognized at the awards luncheon included recovering a pistol after a routine traffic stop that was later linked to several homicides in the Chicagoland area, apprehending a career criminal who was later sentenced to 23 years in prison, and securing a search warrant which uncovered evidence of identity theft that included personal data stolen from over 200 individuals.
About the District Security Group
The District Security Group (DSG) is a collaboration of the law enforcement and security services operating within the Illinois Medical District. DSG members include the FBI, Illinois State Police, UIC Police, and the Chicago Police Department. The DSG serves to enhance and maintain the safety of employees, residents, visitors and patients in the Illinois Medical District, enhance the perception of the District as a secure environment, and achieve and maintain preparedness to assist in response to emergency events.
About the Illinois Medical District
Situated on Chicago's Near West Side, the Illinois Medical District (IMD) is the largest urban medical district in the nation. The special-use zoning district was created by an act of the Illinois state legislature in 1941 and is home to over 200 public and private entities, including Rush University Medical Center, University of Illinois Medical Center, the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, and John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Also within the IMD’s community is the Chicago Technology Park (CTP), which provides access to physical, technical, financial and human resources for emerging and mature life science firms.
