Five Outstanding Fenster School Students Win College Scholarships

The Arizona Daily Star honors Fenster School seniors through the Senior Class Achievers project

Tucson, AZ (PRWEB) March 12, 2009 -- The Fenster School, a boarding school for high school students, located in Tucson, Arizona, announces five winners of the Senior Class Achievers college scholarship. Elsie Brown, Brian Carpenter, Sasha Martin, Jackie Ruyle and Bo Yuan are this year's recipients of this prestigious award.

Each year, The Arizona Daily Star newspaper in Tucson awards scholarships to students who have not only worked hard academically, but have dedicated themselves to community service, and have also risen above personal hardship. "The Fenster School is proud to take part in celebrating our hardworking students whose achievements in and out of school may not normally be recognized," said Fenster Headmaster Don Saffer. "These impressive seniors have made a difference to our school community and to the greater community, and they deserve this honor."

The Senior Class Achievers project began in 1996 as a recognition program to highlight the accomplishments of high school seniors in the Tucson area who were graduating despite facing extraordinary struggles. Student profiles were published in The Arizona Daily Star as a testament to those individuals. The program has evolved to include a scholarship program, which totaled over $3000 in award money in 2008.

The Fenster School provides a structured and disciplined educational environment designed for students facing challenges at home or at school. Recognized among boarding schools for struggling teens, Fenster specializes in working with students who exhibit the inability to meet their academic potential due to lack of motivation, who refuse to follow rules in any environment or who perform well at school but do not necessarily fit in well at home. "We firmly believe that the structured, caring environment that we provide at Fenster is the right foundation for all our students and was instrumental in leading our five standout students to this stellar achievement," added Saffer.
