Laurel Springs School Launches Virtual Community for Students and Parents

Laurel Springs enriches the community for distance learning homeschoolers with MyLaurelSprings.com

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) March 10, 2009 -- Laurel Springs School, the accredited, college prep private school offering distance learning programs and teacher services for students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, today launched a virtual community for its high school students and parents called MyLaurelSprings.com. The new online community for Laurel Springs homeschool students creates a community hub for those who learn at home in locations around the world. MyLaurelSprings empowers students to communicate with fellow students, make friends, join school clubs, and create study groups. The parents of these distance learning students now have an online community to engage with other Laurel Springs parents.

Marilyn Mosley Gordanier, founder and executive director of Laurel Spring School said, "We are thrilled with the immediate response from our high school students to our new virtual community. We plan to roll it out to the middle schoolers in the coming months."

MyLaurelSprings.com allows a secure, password protected community for students to get to know each other from a distance. Using the same technology as the MySpace forums, Telligent Community Server provides Laurel Springs students the ability to add "friends", create an avatar, join clubs, participate in discussion forums, upload videos, and more. "This is just what our students needed. They are so excited and respectful of each other online. Socialization has been a challenge for our students since they learn at home and reside in more than 40 countries. Laurel Springs is always looking for ways to create community for our students and their families," said Gordanier.

Laurel Springs School helps families who are looking for an alternative to the traditional classroom setting. Laurel Springs offers online, text-based, project-based, and customized courses for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Students can mix and match courses according to the mode of delivery, learning styles preferences, and the appropriate grade level in a given subject. Laurel Springs is a college prep school that emphasizes a mastery-based learning philosophy emphasizing complete proficiency at every stage of the process. Laurel Springs School is accredited by the national accreditation body called the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WASC).
