Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) February 4, 2009 -- The edWeb is a new professional networking and collaboration website for the education community that helps educators share resources and collaborate with colleagues anytime, anywhere. Today, the founder and CEO of the edWeb, Lisa Schmucki, announced that the edWeb has received funding support from MCH, Inc., the leading compiler of business-to-institution databases.

With the edWeb, teachers and administrators can share best practices, information on what's working, and support each other across schools, districts, states, and the country. Schools and districts can use the edWeb to build professional learning communities and work collaboratively to implement new programs and school reforms.

The edWeb is free for educators and gives districts and schools a wide range of social networking tools to move forward faster with any initiative. The edWeb helps educators develop 21st century skills and introduces the benefits of social networking for collaboration and learning.

The edWeb addresses the need expressed by many leaders and policy groups for online learning communities that can provide sustainable professional development opportunities for teachers. The edWeb is open to educators at all levels and in all types of educational settings, but the initial focus is on growing the K-12 market where the need for collaboration and educational reform is greatest.

Peter Long, CEO of MCH, said about the decision to invest in the edWeb, "Social networking is becoming an integral part of personal and professional communications. We believe the edWeb will be an important vehicle to help education professionals connect and support each other as we implement the changes needed to improve education in the U. S. MCH wanted to be in on this from the ground level."

The edWeb and MCH are working together to invite educators across the country to join the edWeb using MCH's new Channel_e email service for the K-12 market. Invitations are going to school and district leaders who can use the edWeb to build online communities within their schools/districts and also to teachers in all curriculum areas and at all K-12 grade levels.

Lisa Schmucki, founder of the edWeb, says, "I am delighted to be working with MCH to grow the edWeb. Our mission is to create an online community where all the constituents in education… individual educators, schools, colleges, associations, and education companies… can come together to drive change and improvement in education. MCH is an ideal partner to help make that happen."
