Applications Are Available for the LeadAmerica Foundation's Classroom Grants to Support Leadership Education
The LeadAmerica Foundation is again making grant funds available to teachers to aid them in integrating leadership education into their curriculum. Applications for the 2009 Classroom Grant Program are now available.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 13, 2008 -- The LeadAmerica Foundation today announced the availability of applications for grants to support leadership education in the classroom. Educators in schools serving students in grades 6 through 12 are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted by November 15, 2008.
Each year, the LeadAmerica Foundation awards grants to middle and high school educators to support leadership education in their classrooms. Over the past three years, the LeadAmerica Foundation awarded nearly $20,000 in grants to more than 50 teachers throughout the US. In addition, the organization annually awards $100,000 in educator-directed scholarships that teachers may use to offset the cost of their students' attendance at a LeadAmerica leadership conference.
Past grant recipients have used funding from the LeadAmerica Foundation to support programs such as Leadership Development Day, conflict resolution programs and a global art outreach to schools in Guatemala, China and Africa. Jamie Smith, who teaches English and Reading at Garfield Middle School in Hamilton, OH, received funds for "Teacher Leaders for Life", a professional development program for educators committed to students' achieving success in life and learning. "This program is designed to enhance leadership skills among teachers and students alike," said Smith. "It provides them with the skill sets necessary to implement leadership education into all aspects of the curriculum."
Chris M. Salamone, Esq., founder and executive director of LeadAmerica, said the grants are part of LeadAmerica's ongoing commitment to supporting schools as they work to develop the youth of today into the leaders of tomorrow. "Ms. Smith's program is an excellent example of educating teachers to integrate leadership in the classroom," said Salamone. "In today's world, it is imperative that we nurture leadership potential from a very young age," he said. "Leadership can make important differences in the lives of teenagers - in their academic and personal performance, in their acceptance to the college of their choice, and in their level of focus, passion and purpose. We are proud to support the efforts of teachers who make the commitment to leadership education."
LeadAmerica also provides financial assistance to students with demonstrated financial need. In recent years, the organization provided more than $500,000 in need-based scholarships.
