Chicago Author, Julia Elaine Bledsoe, Continues on Black History Month Local Tour As She Recounts the Riveting True Story of the Custody Battle for Her Grandchild
Julia Elaine Bledsoe, author of Custody: A Grandmother's View of the Fight for Alexandria Kyesha Jones, continues to discuss her inspiring story at several readings, discussions and book signings at bookstores throughout the Chicago-Area during Black History Month.
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) February 23, 2007 -- Throughout February many African Americans are celebrating Black History Month and so is Julia Elaine Bledsoe as she shares the true story of her daughter's marriage to the leader of a notorious Chicago gang, and the complicated--beyond belief--custody battle that ensued. What this family did was invite him into their home for a sit-down family dinner, laid out the family ground rules and prepared themselves for grandchildren that were not birthed by their daughter. Custody reveals the story of a strong African American family who supported each other through a very trying and difficult time. The gang leader was a father of three, soon to be four and a husband of none. One of the birth mothers signed over her rights to the mother raising her child. When the birth mother went to jail and the father met an untimely death, Julia's daughter was the only mother this child had. The sisters were raised together. But when the birth mother returned home from prison, she had a change of heart and wanted her child back. That is when the custody battle began--two black women fighting over one child.
"Julia tells us about the good, the bad and the ugly of a real life situation. Custody is indeed a very emotional true story!" says Cheryl Robinson, Host and Executive Producer of www.JustAboutBooksTalkShow.com.
The book has received great reviews from the media and many book clubs across the nation and has generated great interest from Baltimore to Los Angeles, since its release in June 2006. Custody has been featured on numerous talk shows, such as the Just About Books Talk Show; The Eric Von Show; and Everyone's Place African Cultural Forum.
The tour will offer an interactive experience with the audience as Julia, a devout Christian, captures the audience's attention by opening the discussion with an old gospel hymn, I Don't Feel Noways Tired, tells a gut-wrenching true story and then closes with another song, It's Been A Lovely Way to Spend My Day.
"I recently traveled to Los Angeles for a book signing at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport, and while in the City of Angels, I discussed a possible movie deal. I am so elated at the book's success," says Julia Elaine Bledsoe, a first-time author.
The pre-tour kicked off at the Barnes & Noble Bayshore store in Glendale, Wisconsin on January 30th with a high-energy discussion for all who attended. The book signings continued on February 10th at Borders in Rockford, Illinois; and February 17th at Borders in Oak Park, Illinois. Bring your family and friends to meet Julia, where she will autograph her book at the other scheduled book signings on February 22nd at 7:30 pm at Borders (95th Street) in Chicago, Illinois and February 24th at 2:00 pm at Borders in Matteson, Illinois.
